Launch day!!! Always a bit stressful when the boat goes into the water. Here’s even worse as you don’t know how to communicate with the locals so can’t express your worries. We did ok though and after eating nearly two hours we were off down the yacht to the ramp.
Spirit floated off fine and there was no water ingress which is always a good sign! Got to remember we have thru hull fittings that can leak. There’s only three but it’s always nice when they remain dry. Once floating we started the outboard spun around and headed out under the powerlines to Yacht Haven Marina. We anchored for a little and I dropped Claudia off to the yard in the dinghy so she could ride the bike back. I filled both jerry cans of fuel up and then checked out where we were going to berth. As Spirit isn’t the easiest boat to manoeuvre I like to make sure I know where I’m going and what the obstacles are beforehand. It helps a great deal and allows us both to be prepared before we head into the marina. We had an easy berth stern in a big pen so there wasn’t any trouble. Claudia is amazing and she normally prepares all the lines and fenders as we head in. She never panics and is always calm and confident in what she does. We took it easy in the afternoon and had a nice lay about on the nets. Life’s so good to be back onboard and on the water again!

We’ve been away from Spirit since April. Spending a month in Panama, three months around Newport RI working and then two months in Italy with Claudia’s family for the summer and now just finishing two months in Australia with my family.
It’s been an amazing time with friends and family catching up and enjoying each other’s time. It seems life just keeps flying by these last few years and we’re both making a big effort to slow things down and to live even more simple with more time for us than ever before. It seems to be working well for us at present. We’re both super excited as next Tuesday the 20th we’re flying back to Spirit in Phuket. There’s no long term plans as yet but some sailing and exploring of Thailand’s west coast is on the cards until early next year. After this we’ll see where the wind and time take us hopefully it’s out to see and to new places. I’ll try and update the blog a little more this season. It’s the first time we don’t have a huge amount of plans so we hope to have more time to share and do the things we love. |
